Ani Schulze Ani Schulze
Ani Schulze (*1982 in Frankenberg (GER)) studied at Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, Glasgow School of Arts, at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and Kunstakademie Karlsruhe (2009- 2014).
The practice of Ani Schulze moves seamlessly between film, painting, drawing, sculpture and installation. In her work she sensitively processes, merges and let collide various materials (such as ceramics, textiles, smell, metal, video, sound, etc.), hence the craft process plays a major role. The artist creates visual worlds in which history and stories are encircled in dreamlike images, fusing reality and imagination, mythological and scientific references, personal and collective experiences. She explores the mutual relationship and the porous boundaries between the human body and its environment, as well as the effects of advancing digitalisation and capitalism on these. Ani Schulze‘s works unbalance our handling with power structures, norms and regulations.
In doing so, they play with familiar and at the same time arouse suspicion. Her work has been shown in various screenings, solo and group shows notably at Hamburger Kunsthalle; Lehmann + Silva Gallery, Porto; Pavilhão Branco, Lisbon; Kunstverein Siegen; I: Project Space, Beijing; Kunsthalle Schirn, Frankfurt; Uma Certa Falta de Coerência, Porto; Oberhausen Short Film Festival; Marl Media Art Awards; Galerie Nagel Draxler, Cologne; Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg; Temporary Gallery, Cologne; Salzburger Kunstverein; Kölnischer Kunstverein, Cologne and Extra City Kunsthal, Antwerpen. She received grants and residencies by HBK- Hochschule für Bildende Künste Braunschweig, Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, Goethe Institute China, I: Project Space, Schloss Ringenberg, Kunststiftung NRW, RAVI Liège, AiR Antwerpen, Innogy Stiftung, CEAAC and Fondazione Bevilaqua La Masa. In 2022 she was awarded with the fellowship for female media artists in North Rhine-Westfalia.
