In his solo exhibition Schnappschuss – Meine Fragen sind beantwortet., Moritz Krauth (*1990 Hamburg; lives and works in Düsseldorf) explores the process of identity formation. The artist moves within a field of tension between empowerment, vulnerability, and protection. At the centre of the exhibition stands Faafa Fine, or Frank Münch-Pfeiffer, a queer individual whom the artist* accompanied photographically over several months and with whom Krauth had already realised the performance La Hora Azul at Museum Ludwig in 2024.
The resulting indexical works delve into all areas of the performer and activist’s life: from highly private glimpses—unvarnished and vulnerable within her flat—to representative stagings featuring a pistol as a determined expression of resilience and empowerment, a sign of being both physically and emotionally armed. With particular sensitivity, Krauth opens up perspectival possibilities, gaps, overlaps, as well as dissonances and resonances. The series of portraits of Faafa Fine simultaneously offers insight into processes of identity that have unfolded beyond traditional gender roles over decades and are continually reinventing themselves. Thus, an image emerges in which the personal and the societal remain in constant motion and mutual friction.
In light of the current social climate, marked by a shift to the right and growing queerphobia, this engagement gains increasing political and cultural relevance. At the opening and on selected dates, Faafa Fine and Moritz Krauth will present an ongoing performance. Taking the format of a dialogical tour as their point of departure, they open up various subjective perspectives and enter into direct exchange with the works and the audience.
